Honestly, in almost every styling session someone asks me the same thing, and it’s never about trends. It’s “wait, where did you get that?” Pointing at my shoes, my dress, whatever has actual color on it that day. And the answer is boring every single time: on sale, or some tiny local shop nobody’s heard of. My clothes are cheap as hell. Price was never the real question. Knowing what to look for was.
Most women I work with have lost that part. Not their taste, just the habit of knowing what actually works for them right now. And it’s not really personal, the numbers back this up. Studies on wardrobe use keep landing in the same place: most women regularly wear only 20 to 30% of what they own. The average woman also spends around 17 minutes a day just deciding what to put on, and in one UK survey, two out of three women admitted to trying on multiple outfits before finally leaving the house. That’s not indecision. That’s a wardrobe not doing its job.
Here are five signs I hear constantly, almost word for word, in real sessions.
If two or more of these sound like you, that’s usually the moment to stop trying to fix it alone. Explore Personal Styling Services
This is one of the most common things I hear. Not “I gained weight,” specifically the belly. Clothes that used to sit right now pull, or gape, or just feel wrong.
This isn’t in your head. Research on postpartum body image consistently finds that most women feel dissatisfied with their shape well into the first year after birth, and abdominal changes specifically, not just weight, are one of the most reported concerns. Pregnancy shifts muscle, skin, and fat distribution in ways that don’t show up on a scale. Clothes can fit differently at the exact same weight you were before.
Short fix: stop trying to fit your old clothes back onto your current body. Start with one category, trousers usually, and find the cut that actually works for the body you have now. The rest can wait.
Between kids and work, keeping up with what’s current fell off the list a while ago.
Short fix: you don’t need to follow trends, you need three or four current pieces that update what you already own. That’s a much smaller task than “learning fashion again,” and it’s the difference between a wardrobe that looks stuck and one that just looks like you, now.

You know the one. Comfortable, reliable, worn so often it’s basically a uniform. Mixing anything else, or adding color, feels like a risk you don’t know how to take.
This is exactly what decision fatigue looks like in a closet. When nothing is pre-coordinated, every single outfit becomes its own decision, so the brain defaults to whatever’s already proven safe. It’s a shortcut, not a style choice.
Short fix: pick one color you already own in a small amount, a bag or a shoe, and build one new outfit around it. Not a new wardrobe. One outfit.
Longer torso, shorter legs. Bigger bust, smaller arms. Whatever the combination, you’ve learned that “your size” on the label doesn’t mean it will actually fit your body.
Short fix: stop shopping by the size number and start shopping by the two or three things you already know are tricky on you. Fit trouble isn’t random, it’s usually the same two or three problems showing up in every wrong purchase.
Dinner with your husband, brunch with the girls, a night out dancing. The plan isn’t the problem, it’s standing in front of the closet an hour before with nothing that feels right.
Short fix: build one outfit for each specific scenario, not a general “going out” pile. One for dinner, one for brunch, one for dancing. Specific problems need specific outfits, not a vague idea of dressier clothes.
Age comes up in almost every one of these conversations too, some version of “is this still okay for me to wear.” Rarely does that question have anything to do with actual age. It usually means you’ve lost the outside eye on your own closet, the one that can see clearly what you can’t anymore because you’ve looked at it too many times.
That’s the actual work of a styling session. If more than one of these sounded familiar, message me on WhatsApp or explore Personal Styling Services, and let’s fix it properly instead of getting dressed three times every morning.
